Winters Out, Springs In

Well it's been ages since I last posted, but the ol' bonsai hasn't been up to much since you last saw it in the winter. Now the weather has perked up a bit, the little green - and still nameless - bonsai has started making a bit of effort.

Thanks to the constant gardeners weekend attendance and amazing window opening skills, the blighters sprouted all sorts of shoots and started taking yet another direction (which is good for a bonsai).

And no post would be complete without a complimentary mobile phone camera attachment!

Winters In

Well Winter should be in full swing now so the Bonsai is still in doors. In fact it hasn't moved dince you last saw it in November(!) but it's expected to move before Spring.

Through December and even January it's moved through various shades of healthy green down to less attractive light shades of chartreuse and has maintained the sienna at the top of the stalk.

It's grown quite a bit over the holidays but hopefully Spring will hold a bit more life.

Out of interest, the bonsai is now 114 days old, so It was 100 on the 3rd of January. It missed its naming day so I'll have to have a vote on the name and have the ceremony on the 150th (12th February) or 200th (3rd April). Stay Tuned.

Settling in for Winter

The bonsai seems to be holding up for winter now. I'm not very confident about the colour at the top of the stem. I'm not sure if it's normal, or if its half dead, or as some people have claimed it's growing bark. Little early I think.

Either way, I've found that it's not to be watered too much this time of year, and temperature is important. Thankfully we have fairly good conditions in the office because too much outdoor time could dry out the fella too quickly if its windy. The ground is staying quite moist so I dont think I'll have to water it more than a few times a week.

Pictures are showing that it's continuing to grow ever so slightly; the centre is already outgrowing the original pine leaves.

You'll probably also notice that my images are being hosted on Picasa now for your browsing pleasure and also because at some point in the last two years, I sold my soul to Google.

Field Trip

Well after some crude maths , I've come to the conclusion that the Bonsai is now 50 days old! Which I think it's quite a special day. As its getting older, I thought I'd give it a change of scenery and let it sit in its natural habitat for a while... the window ledge.

Any pigeon seen within a yard of my bonsai will be promptly shot at with foam darts.

Sinking Weekly Feeling

Ok so the blog will be cut down to posts roughly every week. Bonsai trees just dont dance enough to make a daily show out of it. But the growth is still impressive, even if I do see it every day. Watering is now a little more regiemed, as it is only watered a small amount each night after the sun's gone down. This isn't some crazy Gremlins thing, but I dont want to burn the leaves.

Bonsai to-do list:
- Buy spray bottle
- Figure out the required acidity of a pine tree

For now, here's some pics of the impressive growth and new autumn/winter colouring.
